About: I live in Congleton, which is pretty much in the centre of Cheshire Border. I have two sons, one an accountant and the other at Manchester University. I’m a project manager, with a background in law and human resources and in my time have worked for a world superbike race team! In any spare time I get I enjoy going to the theatre and playing bridge (not too seriously!) and I love travelling and meeting new people and old friends. Last, but definitely not least, I am a Ranger unit leader with a very active and growing group of young women who help to keep me either young in spirit or exhausted with their energy!

Role: The role of County Commissioner is tremendously varied and requires an oversight of everything that is going on within and being planned by the county. A key aspect is leading the county’s team of Division Commissioners and advisers as they seek to support over 600 adult leaders and helpers working with the county’s units. I chair the county’s executive committee which meets five times a year and has the additional responsibility of being the county’s trustees. I attend regular meetings of the NW England region executive committee which is part of the communication link between adult leaders in the county and Girlguiding UK at national level.

One of the great pleasures of being the County Commissioner is the opportunity to visit units and events and see the guiding programme in action and the special privilege of presenting awards for achievement like the Baden-Powell Challenge and D of E Awards and long service awards to leaders. Representing the county at various Cheshire events provides another chance to promote guiding and the many varied opportunities that we offer girls and young women.
Having only been appointed in April 2008 I still feel that I’m learning about the role. I’m definitely enjoying both the opportunities and challenges and feel especially privileged to be part of planning the celebrations for our centenary in 2010 and all the exciting activities that will bring. Cheshire Border is a vibrant and active county and I’m proud to be involved.
