Comments from the judges:

We liked:

  • the story behind the creation of the garden
  • fantastic owl
  • the strong shape of the path
  • a great water feature
  • the locally made bench
  • use of re-cycled materials eg bricks, tree trunks
  • that it will be replanted locally

We would have liked to see:

  • more height in the plants especially at the back
  • plants a little further on in development
(a day later they are looking much more advanced)

The garden is attracting a lot of interest from the public and a book of comments is being compiled.

Read about us in the Knutsford Times.

The design and planting ideas originated from the competition to design a garden which was run earlier in the year.

The winners of the competition were:

Brownies: Aigail Renwick from 4th Poynton. Runners up were Hannah Beard and Mikaila James, 5th Wilmslow.
Guides: Kirby Jennings, 4th Poynton. Runner up was Jenny Daniel, 6th Knutsford.
Adult: Ruth HIckson. Alsager Trefoil Guild, Runner Up was Gemma Cox, Crosstown, Congleton.

An important part of this project was to involve as many members of all ages in some way – designing, plant hunting, growing, resource sourcing, building, exhibiting and fundraising.

The garden features include an undulating pathway to represent our journey in guiding, a slightly sunken trefoil shaped seating area reflecting our threefold promise, a low wall, a large carved owl sculpture made by a local artist, Tim Burgess, and a specially commissioned trefoil shaped centenary wrought iron garden bench built by a local blacksmith.
