Who are Rainbows?

Rainbows are girls between age 5 and 7 years of age. Their meetings are full of games and activities which let Rainbows think for themselves and take an active part in group decision making.

What do Rainbows Wear?

Rainbows are encouraged, in consultation with their parents, to choose what they wear to meetings from the available Rainbow clothing. There are polo shirts, hooded jackets, jog pants, cycle shorts and baseball caps. Tabards, which are worn over their own clothes, are also available.

The Rainbow Promise

After about 6 – 8 weeks from joining each girl makes a Promise (as below). This is similar to the Promise all members of Girlguiding UK make, just a little shorter making it easier for Rainbows to understand and remember.

The Promise

I promise that
I will do my best
To love my God
And to be Kind and Helpful

Within a Promise Party, planned by the new girl(s) and the leaders, a small ceremony takes place. Each girl will be welcomed and asked to say the Promise at which point she will receive a promise badge and certificate.
The Promise can be said on her own or along with the rest of the group as she prefers.

Moving on to Brownies

When a Rainbow reaches years of age she can begin to think about becoming a Brownie. She can work through the ‘Pot of Gold’ book, which will help her to remember her time as a Rainbow and learn a little about being a Brownie. There will be a Pot of Gold Party, at which she will receive a Pot of Gold badge and a card. These parties can be simple or special, but are planned by the girls. Some will have a theme, such as

    • Fancy dress
    • Bring a favourite toy
    • Picnic held at a local park/outside
