The Trefoil Guild – ‘Guiding for Adults’
The Trefoil Guild adds another dimension to guiding.
If you are 18 or over you are very welcome to join us.
What do we do?
The Trefoil Guild exists to offer practical help to Girlguiding UK in whatever way we can, to support guiding worldwide and to live the spirit of guiding.
See photos of Alsager Guild at Alsager carnival 2009.
Visit Congleton page to read about an honour to one of their members.
Some members visit units to help out with particular activities- for example Brownies working for the Traditions badge or helping Guides with camp skills.
Others do badge testing, raising money, story reading, the list is endless!
Guilds usually meet monthly, some in the afternoon, others in the evening and each Guild has its own varied programme including crafts, speakers, theatre visits, eating, and we always like to have fun.
Even if you missed out on being a Guide or Scout there is a place for you in the Trefoil Guild.
Did you know ? The Old Cheshire Guiders' Club first met in November 1927? They had two meetings a year, one in Cheshire and one in London. In 1937 Headquarters realised the need for an Old Guide Branch and by the end of the year there were five other groups with a membership of 84. This was of course the basis for the Trefoil Guild which came into being in 1943.
There are nine Guilds in Cheshire Border;
- Alderley Edge and Wilmslow
- Alsager
- Congleton
- Jodrell
- Macclesfield
- Nantwich
- Poynton
- Sandbach
- Wistaston

The Guilds have full and varied programmes. They will be telling us what they do from time to time.
There are also county events where members of the various Guilds can get together and recapture the joy of guiding.
Cheshire Border County Trefoil Guild is taking part in the Changing the World projects and have chosen Water Aid - targetting Nepal. Various singing opportunities are planned with a grand finale on May 14th at Egerton Hall - a 'Sing and Share' lunch from 11.00 am until 2.00pm. Cost £1 donation or proceeds from sponsorship.
Individual Guilds are also planning their own projects.
New Units, or Units that are reopening, can apply to the Trefoil Guild for Starter Packs for all of the girls. A member of Macclesfield Trefoil Guild recently visited the reopened 1st Rainow Brownies and presented them with a box containing about 20 Welcome to Brownies books, some badge books, hand books etc. The happy faces show how pleased the Brownies were.
