1st Wilmslow Guides at “Sparkle & Ice”

1st Wilmslow Guides at Waddow Hall 2018 for “Sparkle & Ice”

Naomi re the zip wire; “I was slightly nervous looking over the edge, before I jumped off. I was so far from the ground, but the adrenaline rush was spectacular !

Last October members of 1st Wilmslow Guides were looking for a “challenge” and read about “Sparkle & Ice”  to be held at Waddow Hall in February 2018.
With that attitude two leaders, two young leaders and five Guides signed up.
Early on 3 February they travelled through drizzle, sleet and snow, arriving with time to pitch their lightweight tents, before the welcome and onto activities.

As the mature one I loved the zip wire, while others enjoyed the crates and the challenge of team work to make the highest tower.

Harriet: The highlight of the weekend was definitely the crate challenge, it was really fun working as a team and I’m glad I faced my fears to be on the top!

Unfortunately there had been so much rain leading up to the weekend the ground did turn into a quagmire in places and one or two did a graceful slide to the floor! There was a wide range of activities inside and out through to 10 pm. The “warm” cinema showing Moana was very popular.
The kit list had stressed warm clothing, footwear, bedding. It even said, bring a hot water bottle. We woke up to find tent zips frozen over. The soggy ground was now firm frozen earth. We left the tents to thaw, ate the provided breakfast and again enjoyed activities for another hour and a half before packing everything away.

Frozen tent at 9am.

A leader checked her car at 9am and the car temperature guide said -3, overnight it had fallen to -4.

Girls you were amazing. All challenges definitely met!! It was a very well organised event with very helpful staff and volunteers, good food and endless availability of warming tea, coffee or hot chocolate.
